Contrary to what many retailers tell shoppers, the oval-pod concept of the Ovalia lounge chair did not originate with Eero Aarnio. Though Aarnio did design the iconic Ball Chair, the credit for the Ovalia chair’s oval-pod egg concept goes to the Danish industrial designer and inventor, Henrik Thor-Larsen. Mr. Thor-Larsen first exhibited this sensational easy chair at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in 1968, where it became an immediate international success.
The Ovalia is an excellent example of a mid-century modern design that easily transitions into today’s modern and contemporary decorating themes. This chair’s ability to make a bold statement is unquestionable, so much so that Hollywood producers incorporated it into the first two MEN IN BLACK films starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
With the Ovalia chair’s timeless egg shape as inspiration, Rustic Deco designers integrated polished aluminum and top-grain leather to create an industrial-themed hybrid for our Aviation Furniture collection. The carapace of this amazing hybrid features aviation-grade aluminum with riveted seams that simulate the outer skin of vintage aircraft.
To complement the chair’s polished aluminum exterior, the interior boasts 100% genuine leather with a tobacco-leaf distressed finish. Not only is this chair very comfortable, it's equipped with a rotating swivel base, making it a great option for offices and entertainment areas.
